New York Felony

In the State of New York, criminal offenses are classified as either a violation, a misdemeanor or a felony. Violations are punishable by no more than 15 days imprisonment. A misdemeanor is punishable by anywhere from 15 days to one year imprisonment. There are three levels of misdemeanors, A, B & unclassified. An A misdemeanor can be punishable by up to one year in jail. A B misdemeanor is punishable by up to 90 days in jail, and an unclassified misdemeanor can be punishable by one year in jail. There are five levels of felonies in New York state, which range from A through E. The highest level is an E felony, which is punishable by up to life in prison. The lowest level felony is punishable by one year and one day in jail, at minimum.
